From CAD drawing to print

DXF is made for CAD software, while print shops, sign makers and design programs such as Illustrator and CorelDRAW work with EPS. Converting plots the drawing the way a printer would: lines stay vector, so they stay sharp when enlarged, and the page is white like paper.

The EPS is sized by the drawing’s shape, not its real size: it is usually 4.8 inches tall, with the width following the drawing’s proportions, and no side longer than 16 inches. In our tests a 40 × 30 mm drawing came out about 6.4 × 4.8 inches, and a 500 × 200 mm drawing 12 × 4.8 inches. The drawing keeps its exact proportions (very long, thin drawings get white margins), so scale the EPS in your design program using one dimension you know.

Getting a clean result

Delete construction lines, dimensions and title blocks you do not want before converting.
Put the parts you need in model space; layouts in paper space are not drawn.
Very thin lines may need a heavier stroke in your design program to print well.
The white page is a rectangle behind the drawing; delete it in your design program if you need a clear background.
