Is the DXF the same size as the EPS?

Yes, as long as your software imports it as millimeters: coordinates are written in millimeters at the drawing’s real size, so a 4-inch-wide drawing is 101.6 mm wide. The file does not say which unit it uses, so software that assumes inches needs to be set to millimeters.

Why is the DXF just lines, not shapes?

The DXF uses the simple R12 format, which most software reads, and stores each outline as connected LINE segments. Use Auto-Join in LightBurn or JOIN in AutoCAD if you need closed shapes.

Why are the colors and layers gone?

Everything is written to one layer without color. Put the parts on separate layers or assign cut settings in your CAD or laser software after importing.

Same drawing, same size

An EPS already holds vector shapes, so nothing is redrawn: the outlines in the file are written to the DXF at their real size, in millimeters. A drawing 4 inches wide in the EPS is 101.6 mm wide in the DXF, so as long as your software imports it as millimeters, you do not need to rescale it.

Joining lines for cutting and CAD

The DXF is written as separate LINE pieces rather than one closed polyline per shape. Most cutting and CAD software can join them:

LightBurn: select everything and use Auto-Join, then set the cut layer.
AutoCAD: use the JOIN command to turn connected lines into polylines.
Fusion 360: insert the DXF into a sketch; closed profiles appear where the lines meet end to end.

When the DXF comes out empty

Some EPS files, especially from stock photo sites, are just a photo or a scanned picture wrapped in EPS. There are no shapes to convert, and the photo is left out, so the DXF is empty. Convert it to an image with EPS to PNG, then trace that with PNG to DXF.
